objective
Runde forsking needed a way to turn their knowledge of marine biology and ocean science into a marketable product aimed at aquaculture and fisheries. The service should contribute to a sustainable stewardship of marine resources by introducing ecosystem thinking to daily operations in the marine industry.
TYPE OF PROCESS
Design-driven innovation
Service development
Co-creation workshop
APPROACH
Exploration: The project started with an internal mapping of the challenge, drivers and actors. We then carried out in-depth interviews with key stakeholders within aquaculture, fisheries, ocean sciences and regulatory authorities.
Co-creation workshop: Insights from the interviews were used to design a co-creation workshop. The aim of this was to explore ideas and needs in collaboration with the industry. The facilities at Runde created a wonderful frame for thinking of how ecosystem thinking could help the marin industry to become a more circular, sustainable as well as economic viable industry in future.
Concept development: Combing through the insights from the co-creation workshop yielded common threads, identifying the needs in the marine industry and the role Runde Forsking could play in filling them.
impact
The three concepts delivered all showed potential for growing the business of Runde Forsking as well as bringing more of the ecosystem thinking into the marin industry. Engaging key stakeholders in the co-creation workshop has led to strengthening and building the business network of Runde Forsking.
